The calm earth mother of Wildwire!
Kate was sent kicking and screaming to Wanaka from Hamilton at the age of 16 to finish her schooling at Mount Aspiring College. It didn’t take long for her to develop a love for the mountains, the local people and all the outdoor activities Wanaka has to offer. From her experiences in the outdoors through the school’s outdoor pursuits programme, Kate decided the outdoors would be her workplace. Guiding and instructing took her all over New Zealand, then overseas: she’s had great experiences snowboarding and rock climbing all over Europe, America, Canada and Thailand. Kate always came back to Wanaka in between trips to get a Treble Cone fix and a dose of that amazing Wanaka crew. Finally, in 2004, after working on super yachts in Europe and studying yoga in India, Kate decided to settle down for longer in Wanaka, where she now lives with her husband Wayo (masterbuilder of Wildwire) and their four children – two of whom Kate has guided up Wildwire.
Kate loves climbing the waterfall with inspiring people from all over the world, and watching people challenge themselves and step outside their comfort zones.
If you fancy busting out a tree pose on one of our suspension bridges, or a downward dog on a ledge, you’re in luck! She also teaches yoga in Hawea Flat and at Yoga Ground in Wanaka!
