Here at Wildwire we offer a variety of exciting seasonal guiding opportunities.

As a Via Ferrata Guide at Wildwire, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our clients while guiding them through our via ferrata courses in some of New Zealand’s most stunning natural settings. You will play a pivotal role in creating memorable and unique adventures for our clients.

The guides are absolute legends and very patient. Highly recommend this adrenalin pumping activity!

Wildwire Guide Role Requirements

  • As a tourism company, we have fluctuating guiding requirements throughout the season which opens up a number of different employment opportunities!

    Core Team

    We are looking for a core group of guides to join us for the whole season from September/October all the way through to April/May.

    We have capacity to hire a small number of less experienced guides early season with the view of you gaining the necessary experience before our busy peak season.

    Peak Team

    We are also looking for a number of fixed-term positions to join us over our peak season of December to February.

    To fill these roles you will have solid rock climbing experience and experience in a guiding capacity or similar and will be expected to hit the ground running after some site-specific training.

    Call-in Team

    Perfect for those who have a second job and would be happy to spend a few days guiding on the wire when we extra need help!

  • Qualifications

    • Qualified Outdoor Instructor in a climbing strand to NZOIA Rock Leader or equivalent.

    • Current Outdoor First Aid and CPR certificate.

    Technical Skill Requirements

    • Strong personal climbing background with experience in various disciplines, including leading rock climbing and/or via ferrata.

    • Proficiency in setting up and managing climbing systems, including anchors, belays, and rope management. 

    • Knowledge and understanding of basic climbing rescue systems.

    • Knowledge and understanding of technical climbing equipment.


    • Prior guiding or professional group management experience.

    • Proficiency in leading multi-pitch climbing and traditional climbing techniques is highly desirable.
