Role Description
As a Via Ferrata Guide at Wildwire, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our clients while guiding them through our via ferrata courses in some of New Zealand’s most stunning natural settings. You will play a pivotal role in creating memorable and unique adventures for our clients.
Available Roles
Core Team
We are on the lookout for our core guiding team to join us for the whole season from September/October all the way through to April/May.
To fill these roles, you will have solid rock climbing experience and experience in a guiding capacity.
However, we also have the capacity to hire a small number of less experienced guides early season, with the view of you gaining the necessary experience before our busy peak season.
Peak Season Team
We are also looking for a number of fixed-term positions to join us over our very busy peak season of December to February.
To fill these roles, you will have solid rock climbing experience and experience in a guiding capacity or similar and will be expected to hit the ground running after some site-specific training.
Call-in Team
Perfect for those experienced guides who have a second job or just enjoy a chilled life and would be happy to jump in on the wire when we need extra help!

Note: All positions require flexibility in working hours, including weekends, public holidays, and extended outdoor shifts. Christmas and New Year is by far our busiest time of year so we need all guides to be fully available over this period.
Wildwire Guide Role Requirements

Qualifications
Qualified Outdoor Instructor in a climbing strand to NZOIA Rock Leader or equivalent is preferred.
OR
Proven personal outdoor rock climbing experience, including proficient rope management and rescue techniques.
AND
Current Outdoor First Aid and CPR certificate.
Technical Skill Requirements
Strong personal climbing background with experience in various disciplines, including leading rock climbing and/or via ferrata.
Proficiency in setting up and managing climbing systems, including anchors, belays, and rope management.
Knowledge and understanding of basic climbing rescue systems.
Knowledge and understanding of technical climbing equipment and their applications.
Other Skills
The ability to work as a team player.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent physical fitness and climbing-related strength, endurance and agility, with the ability to lead clients on challenging terrain.
Composure and ability to make decisions under pressure.
Comfortable working outdoors, with proven experience in varying weather conditions.
A passion for adventure and sharing the outdoors with others.
Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
Adaptability to changing environments.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
Proficiency in leading multi-pitch climbing and traditional climbing techniques.
Knowledge of advanced rock climbing/via ferrata rescue skills including the ability to perform technical rescues.
Demonstrate leadership in emergencies.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and risk assessments.
Ability to identify and mitigate hazards.
Confidence in conflict resolution.

Competitive hourly guiding rate, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Transport between Wanaka and our location.
