Five ways up the world's highest waterfall cable climb
Which climb is right for you?
We run five climbs on Twin Falls, 20 minutes from Wānaka. All of them are via ferrata, so you climb it yourself while staying clipped to a steel safety cable. No experience needed.
Three are Lord of the Rungs on the left-hand falls, all on one route:
Level 1 climbs 150 metres in about three hours
Level 2 carries on to 320 in around five hours
Level 3 goes the full 450 to the top with a helicopter ride down
Twin Falls Climb & Canyon climbs the Level 1 route then abseils back down through the water.
The Wild Thing takes on the right-hand falls.
Most people book Level 2. Short on time or unsure about heights? Start with Level 1.
Lord of the Rungs
Three levels on the left-hand falls, all on one route. Level 1 climbs 150 metres up the lower falls in about three hours. Level 2, our most popular, carries on to 320 metres and finishes at the base of a 60 metre waterfall. Level 3 goes the full 450 to the top, and you come down by helicopter.
Book the level you want. Each one includes everything below it. No experience needed, and you stay dry.
LEVEL 1
LEVEL 2
LEVEL 3
The Wild Thing
The right-hand falls, and the most sustained climbing we offer. Start on the Level 1 route, hike across the top, then take on 320 metres of exposed face climbing and a suspended sky ladder.
This one asks more of you than the Lord of the Rungs Levels 1 and 2. Best suited to anyone who has climbed Level 2 with us, or who has rock climbing behind them and a solid head for heights.
Around five to six hours, minimum age 15, groups of up to four.
Twin Falls Climb & Canyon
The only one where you come back down through the water. You climb the Level 1 route up the falls, then pull on a wetsuit and abseil back down through the canyon.
You'll learn both skill sets on the day with your guide alongside you.
No climbing or abseiling experience needed, but you do want to be reasonably fit and comfortable on uneven, exposed ground.
Around five hours, minimum age 12. Wetsuit provided.
One waterfall, two falls, five climbs
The three Lord of the Rungs levels climb the left-hand falls. The Wild Thing takes on the right. Twin Falls Climb & Canyon does both, up the left and back down the right through the water. The map shows where each climb finishes.
Climbing as a group?
We run private climbs with your own guide, your own group and your own start time. Corporate teams, celebrations, milestone birthdays, or anyone who'd rather not share the day.
Groups larger than eight are custom by arrangement.
Tell us what you're after and we'll build the day around it.
